Miami, Fla. (Feb 17, 2017) -
Boston Whaler’s new 230 Outrage received a coveted Innovation Award from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). The new Outrage was awarded in the Center Console/Walkaround Fishing Boats category and announced on Friday during the NMMA’s Innovation Breakfast at the Miami International Boat Show.
“We’re honored to receive an Innovation Award for our 230 Outrage,” said Boston Whaler President Nick Stickler. “The 230 demonstrates Boston Whaler’s commitment to delivering Core Confidence, marrying rugged fishing capability and cutting-edge technology with design innovations that enhance comfort, enjoyment and ease of use.”
The 230 Outrage is remarkably spacious for its size, thanks largely to a feat of design: The coaming around the bow was pushed out as far as possible to allow for maximized seat width, legroom, lounge seating and storage, with an overall sense of increased security for bow passengers.
Another standout feature is the innovative Converting Leaning Post. At first glance it appears to be a standard helm bench seat, but flip down the back of the seat to reveal a hidden work station perfect for prepping lines, tackle or snacks. (Flip the table closed to maximize cockpit space.) In its “up” position, the leaning post gives anglers a supported aft-facing stance. Or, for additional seating, the backrest rotates down a full 90 degrees to form the backrest of a comfortable aft-facing seat, all while preserving storage space for a 54-quart cooler.
As well-suited for entertaining as it is for serious fishing, the 230 Outrage features wide walkways and high freeboard. These aspects lend extra confidence and safety for wrestling a big catch or hosting a group. For the captain, refinements include a darker console face for reduced glare, strategically placed cup holders, and an intuitive control panel with optional Raymarine E95 touchscreens. And, true to its Whaler heritage, the 230 Outrage is incredibly easy to clean, operate and maintain.
The Innovation Awards program, organized by the NMMA and judged by Boating Writers International (BWI), recognizes products that best meet criteria including innovative distinction from other products currently being manufactured; benefit to the marine industry and/or consumer; practicality of use; and cost-effectiveness. The judging committee is comprised of BWI members who perform product testing throughout the year and have specific expertise in marine products.
The 230 Outrage is the sixth Boston Whaler model to win an NMMA Innovation Award in the last ten years.
